The De Bethune DB25 Moon Phase Watch

De Bethune has a new addition to the family, the DB25 Moon Phase timepiece features a drum case which is crafted from either 18 carat rose or white gold. The case has the impressive diameter of 44.6 mm and 11.1 mm thick. The classic dial has is silvered gold with a guilloche pattern done entirely by hand. Below the 12 o'clock mark lies a window revealing the De Bethune spherical moon phase, this beautiful blue sky dotted with gold stars is nicely complemented by the flame-blued hands and markers. The moon phase itself consists of two hemispheres, one in steel and the other in platinum, which is also flame-blued by hand and rotates on its own axis. The mechanism for turning the sphere has been calculated so accurately that it will take 122 years before it requires a correction. The face is protected by a sapphire crystal with a 1800 Vickers hardness and a double anti-reflective treatment.

The DB25 Moon Phase timepiece is powered by the new DB2105si hand-wound mechanical movement which features a power reserve of up to six days. The movement contains 29 jewels and beats at a frequency of 28’800 vibrations per hour. The movement has been decorated and “colimaçonné” as well as steel chamfered and polished by hand. It has a self-adjusting double spring barrel and a silicon annular balance with flat terminal curve. The functions for the watch include hours, minutes, moon phase indication and a power reserve indicator on the back.

Baselworld 2010 will be held from March 18 to March 25 at the Basel Exhibition Center in Switzerland. More than 2000 companies from the watch, jewelery and precious-stone industries will exhibit their latest innovations to the lucky attendees of Basel which over the years has grown to be over 100,000 visitors a year. The current planning status shows that BASELWORLD is established at the topmost level. Precisely in economically critical times, the World Watch and Jewellery Show is able to operate from a position of strength. An increasing number of exhibitors are concentrating their show participation exclusively on Basel. The event is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm. At this years Baselworld a one day pass to the event cost $55.00 US Dollars or 60.00 CHF, the 2010 price has not been announced yet.

The newest limited edition watch from Omega features a great new innovation in bezel materials developed by Omega and the Swatch Group. This new material is achieved by using a technique which bonds ceramic with Liquidmetal metallic glass. Liquidmetal is Used for numbers and scaling of the unidirectional dive bezel and composed of zirconium, titanium, copper, beryllium, and nickel. This new mixture has an impressive hardness that is three times that of a conventional 316L stainless steel making the bezels highly resistant to wear and tear. It also has the capability of fusing seamlessly with the ceramic bezel material surrounding it.

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Liquidmetal Limited Edition watch has a 42mm stainless steel case and stainless steel bracelet with the Omega dual-pushbutton folding clasp. This special clasp has a concealed dive extension that allows for easy wearablity over a wetsuit. The black glossy dial complements the glossy look of the ceramic Liquidmetal bezel. The dial also features Superluminova hour indexes and hour hands contribute which allows for easy readability in dim lighting. The screw-down case-back and helium release help the watch to reach an impressive water resistance of up to 600 meters (2000 feet).

The Liquidmetal Limited Edition is powered by the Co-Axial 2500 caliber which features a power reserve of up to 42 hours. Caliber 2500 beats at an impressive 25,200 beats per hour which helps to assure reliable operation. The caliber includes both a stop seconds function for precise setting and a rapidly-adjustable calendar. This watch will be produced in a limited edition of 1,948 pieces.

The Hublot Big Bang Wally

After years of Hublot's partnerships with Wally, the Monaco-headquartered yacht manufacturer, and acting as the Wally Class official timekeeper during their regattas, Hublot has created a new Big Bang watch inspired by the Wally Yachts. This chronograph watch is built from high-tech materials and designed to complement the colors and look of the Wally yachts. The creation of the Wally timepiece is a tribute to the partnership between these two great companies and the values they share. The new Wally watch was selected in the “Sports watch” category of the prestigious Grand Prix de l’ Horlogerie de Genève awards 2009.

The Hublot Big Bang Wally is produced in an extremely light alloy of aluminum and magnesium, while the timepieces movement is made of titanium movement. The case, bezel and dial of the watch have all been created in the same color which creates a stylish and sleek looking watch. The dial features a WALLY logo at 9 o'clock position with black indicators for hours, minutes, seconds, date and chronograph. The watch is completed by a black rubber strap. The Big Bang Wally will be created in a limited number of 500 watches.

Richard Mille RM 010 Chronopassion

Both Richard Mille and Laurent Picciotto of Chronopassion share the same passion for exceptional timepieces and have united to launch of the latest addition to the Richard Mille collection, the RM 010 Chronopassion, a limited edition of jut 50 pieces. The RM 010 Chronopassion Limited Edition is an almost all black version of the original RM 010, with a black DLC finish on the case and a special blue super luminova coat on the numerals. The RM 010 Chronopassion has a three-dimensional look to it which is accomplished with help of the polished finish with the micro-surface and a variety of shades. The rotor mechanism also features a wonder of shades. The watch is produced from different the materials, including gold and titanium. The Chronopassion timepiece is completed by a black rubber strap with black DLC buckle.

Audemars Piguet created a very special watch to benefit the Abruzzo nel Cuore’ foundation. This year on April 6th, the people of L’Aquila were devastated by an earthquake measuring 6.3 Richter magnitude. 90% of buildings were destroyed which included close to 100 churches. The earthquake left more then 65,000 people homeless and injured and caused 307 fatalities. This was the deadliest earthquake to hit Italy since 1980. The Abruzzo foundation is helping to bring aid to the people effected by this tradgedy. The auction took place in Singapore where the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Abruzzo Tourbillon Chronograph watch, along with some items of Formula 1 racing memorabilia were sold at auction which raised $215,000.

The Royal Oak Abruzzo Tourbillon with Chronograph watch is a beautiful example of the style and technology that Audemars Piguet has displayed since the original Royal Oak watches from the 1970’s. The watch features a stunning “mega tapestry” pattern on its dial with a cutout at six o'clock revealing the tourbillon. The dial displays hours, minutes, and seconds as well as the 30 minute chronograph. The case is made from sandblasted titanium which is nicely matched with fine black strap with folding titanium buckle.
