Jaeger -LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Watch

Jaeger-LeCoultre has unveiled an ultra-thin automatic perpetual calendar timepiece. The 39mm watch has a thickness of 9.2 mm. It houses the Caliber 868 movement, the manufacture’s ultra-thin automatic perpetual calendar movement that’s a mere 4.72 mm thick.

In addition to the hour, minute and central seconds hands, the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual watch comprises three counters dedicated to the perpetual calendar displays: the first at 9 o’clock for the day of the week; the second at 3 o’clock for the date; and the third at 6 o’clock for the month. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s signature appears below the moon phase. A four-digit display appears through a small aperture at 7 o’clock.

A single crown changes all the indications in a simple procedure: one press moves the perpetual calendar one day forward, while any additional changes required to keep step with the Gregorian calendar take place automatically. The watch mechanism takes account of the unequal length of months with 28, 30 or 31 days. Every four years, it will naturally display the 29th of February associated with leap years. It requires no manual adjustment before March 1, 2100, since century years are an exception to the four-year cycle governing leap years. Meanwhile, the moon-phase display will portray the various states of the Earth’s satellite over the next 122 years. Just above the dial center is a small rectangular window, about the same shade as the background, which turns gradually red as evening falls.

The new model comes in an 18k pink gold case with a white dial, an 18k white gold version comes with a grained silver-toned dial, and a steel model available exclusively at Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques with a sunburst silver-toned dial.
The Rendez-Vous Celestial by Jaeger Le-Coultre

The new timepiece by Jaeger-LeCoultre has a rendezvous with the sky. It offers an authentic anthem to the creative freedom that has inspired the Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux since 1833. Paying tribute to artistic crafts, its elegance is inextricably bound up with its mechanical excellence.
Created in complete harmony with traditional horology, it illustrates 180 years of history, expertise and technical perfection. The Rendez-Vous Celestial by Jaeger-LeCoultre is an invitation to embark on a galactic voyage and a vivid reminder that, 180 years ago, it was beneath the same star-studded sky that Antoine LeCoultre gave rise to what would become the Grande Maison in the Vallée de Joux.

Nestling in its 18-carat white gold case, the watch reveals the full force of charm by a ricochet effect. Like a luminous echo, diamonds dance across the sides of the case all the way to the crowns and the bezel, before unfurling like a diadem above the numerals. The dial succumbs to the beauty of rare crafts while preserving the impeccable readability of all the functions. The collection’s characteristic hour numerals feature a contemporary shape stretching across the curve of a crescent that is hand-guilloché according to the ancestral tradition of this decorative art, and coated with a transparent blue lacquer. The hour arc tops a disc providing a spectacular vision of the sky with the constellation appearing on a precious lapis lazuli plate. Offering a delightfully lyrical touch, the designers of the model have chosen to incorporate a shooting star as a means of customising time: via a second crown adorned with an inverteddiamond, the mobile star serves to set a personal rendezvous with the stars.

Accentuating the celestial ambitions that make this watch a perfect instrument for making astronomical observations, a zodiac calendar on the dial serves to show the position of the constellations at any moment of the year, by means of an annual calendar that governs the system of time display and measurement. The mechanical automatic movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 809, rotates the star disc at the imperceptibly gradual pace of one turn every 23 hours, 56 minutes and 04 seconds.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Tourbillon

A Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Tourbillon Caliber 978 wristwatch won the first timing competition in more than 35 years, gaining 909 points out of a perfect timing score of 1,000. Second place went to a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Gyrotourbillon with 908 points. The Chronometrie 2009 international timing competition for mechanical wristwatches was held to mark the 50th anniversary of the watch museum in Le Locle.

The revival of competitive timing also brings back the craft of the régleur, or precision timer who prepares watches for the contest. The art consists of juggling conflicting parameters to achieve the truest time and the most constant rate in different positions and temperatures. The two Jaeger-LeCoultre watches were adjusted by a team led by the firm’s technical director, Mr. Jean-Claude Meylan.
The timing results of the competition show that the Master Tourbillon gained on average 0.13 seconds a day, or less than 47.5 seconds a year, and its rate did not vary more than 0.28 seconds a day. The multi-axis Gyrotourbillon movement with a helical mainspring showed remarkable constancy of rate between vertical and horizontal positions, with an average daily variation of 0.29 seconds in the three stages of the trial.

Patek Philippe 5200G-001 - White Gold - Men Gondolo

Patek Philippe's new Ref. 5200 Gondolo 8 Days, Day & Date Indication appeals to all aficionados who
prefer manually wound timepieces. For this model, the Genevan workshops developed a new caliber
that in many respects is reminiscent of the Ref. 5100 “10-Day”, presented 13 years ago to welcome the
new millennium. Unlike the 5100, however, the new Gondolo contains innovative Silinvar®
components

from the “Patek Philippe Advanced Research” think tank for which the manufacture has been granted
numerous patents in the past years. The result is a fetching form movement with a genuine 8-day
power-reserve display. Its date by hand and large aperture for the day of the week – both
instantaneously switching – and an aesthetic personality cannot fail to delight watch enthusiasts. The
caliber is accommodated in an anatomically curved rectangular case that celebrates the Art Deco style.
It is an impressive example of Patek Philippe’s competence in designing and building extraordinary
timepiece cases

The rectangular caliber 28-20 REC 8J PS IRM C J form movement enriches the Patek Philippe
collection of currently produced manually wound movements. It was developed explicitly for the Ref.
5200 Gondolo; in twin in-line barrels, it stores the power needed to guarantee that it will run non-stop
for 192 hours. This doesn't mean that the watch will stand still then; instead, it has the power reserve
required to safeguard the steady amplitude of the balance and its rate accuracy up to and including the
eighth day. Insiders will no doubt remember the Patek Philippe “10-Day” which had its debut in the
year 2000 and delivered power for two additional days. The fact that the Ref. 5200 falls short by two
days is associated with the date indication and the day aperture; advancing these calendar displays
every day at midnight requires a lot of energy.

This is remarkable especially because the calendar is an instantaneously switching mechanism in which the day and the date switch forward simultaneously at midnight, within three milliseconds – faster than the blink of an eye. In the process, the large disk of the prominent day-of-week display has to be advanced by one increment as well. Indeed, a power
reserve of this magnitude is quite remarkable, given the eight lightning-fast calendar switching cycles.
This applies all the more because when quantifying power reserve, Patek Philippe always factors in the
energy needed for one further calendar switching cycle – for functional reliability reasons.

The new Patek Philippe Ref. 5200 Gondolo 8 Days, Day & Date Indication is worn on a hand-stitched
alligator strap with large square scales, which is secured with an 18K white-gold prong buckle. The
strap is shiny blue to match the blue dial and matt black for the model with the silvery white dial.
In 1964, with their number-one hit “Eight days a week”, the Beatles rhapsodized over the power of
eight days. Now, with the Gondolo Ref. 5200 8 Days, Day & Date Indication, Patek Philippe
demonstrates how seductive the energy for eight days can be.
Patek Philippe 5227R-001 - Rose Gold - Men Calatrava

For decades, the Calatrava – the prototype of the classic round wristwatch, including its Officer'sstyle variations with dust covers over the case back – has ranked among the most iconic creations
of Patek Philippe. Uniting the key characteristics of this watch family, the new Calatrava Ref. 5227
now features a display back protected with a separate dust cover. The special twist: The entire
hinge is on the inside of the cover, making it invisible even to the connoisseur.
At Patek Philippe, designing and crafting cases has always been just as important as caliber
engineering, which for most people is the essence of watchmaking. So it is not surprising that the
manufacture has had its own casemaking department for decades and masters all disciplines in this
domain from the very first sketches to the flawlessly polished cases, including the diamond-set
versions.

The case blanks – solid gold, platinum, or stainless steel – are crafted with traditional
cold-forming techniques in high-tonnage hydraulic presses using precision dies also made in-house.
The fine hinges of the dust covers fitted to the coveted Officer's-style watches are also crafted in
this department, partly with high-tech production resources, but mostly by hand, then adjusted to
fractions of a millimeter and assembled to perfection. Accordingly, Patek Philippe's casemakers
were motivated by the assignment of designing a Calatrava case featuring a dust cover to be
attached to the sapphire-crystal case back of the watch with an invisible hinge. They mastered the
task with bravura.

The Calatrava collection has a new showpiece: the Ref. 5227
A close look at the new Calatrava Ref. 5227 from all angles with a loupe reveals that this watch can
only be a Patek Philippe. Not only because it is a Calatrava, but also because of its finesse and
abundance of fascinating details for which the manufacture is acclaimed. The family-owned
enterprise enjoys total creative freedom in designing new models, which always involves certain
imponderables as well. This is especially true because new watches must fulfill the strict directives
of the Patek Philippe Seal.>br>
The Stern family, whose tradition is intimately intertwined with the
Calatrava collection, has the sole and final say on whether the challenge of creating a new watch is
worth taking on. The Sterns acquired the manufacture in 1932, and the first Calatrava model, the
Ref. 96, was launched in the same year. Since then, Patek Philippe repeatedly demonstrated that
even a paragon of design like the Calatrava can be changed, optimized, and perfected.
This year Basel had some amazing pieces, below are just a few of the watches on this years Basel with a detailed descriptions of their functions.

ROLEX COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA
The New Oyster Perpetual 116506

A new prestigious version of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, the emblematic model launched in 1963, exactly 50 years ago this year.
A blend of technological innovation and sophisticated aesthetics, these new Rolex models, all COSC-certified chronometers for their precision, are the latest versions of legendary watches evolving in a constant quest for perfection.
This legendary chronograph is proposed, for the first time, entirely in 950 platinum, the noblest of precious metals. It is equipped with a chestnut brown monobloc Cerachrom bezel in ceramic and an ice blue dial.

A key part of the Cosmograph Daytona's identity is its Cerachrom ceramic bezel with a tachymetric scale, making the watch the ideal instrument to measure average speeds of up to 400 miles or kilometres per hour. The numerals and graduations are perfectly legible thanks to the deposition of a thin layer of platinum via a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process.
The Cosmograph Daytona accompanied Paul Newman throughout his dual career as an actor and racing driver, becoming as durably associated with his name as with the Daytona race track.
ROLEX LADY-DATEJUST PEARLMASTER

This new version of the Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust Pearlmaster combines the most precious materials with a splendid gem setting.
The case and bracelet in 18 ct Everose gold, created by Rolex in its
own foundry, are graced with a bezel and bracelet links in 18 ct white
gold exquisitely set with sparkling diamonds.

Black mother-of-pearl or white mother-of-pearl
The dial of this sumptuous watchmaking gem is adorned with black or white mother-of-pearl and features a lotus flower motif in a pink-gold tone.
DIAMONDS
An obsession with perfection
Rolex selects only the finest, colourless diamonds from reputable and trusted sources for its gem-set bezels. Each gemstone is carefully checked by Rolex’s in-house gemmology experts according to the four key criteria determining diamond quality: carat, clarity, colour and cut. Once sorted, they are passed on to specialist gem setters, true masters of their art, whose craft provides a scintillating enhancement to a Rolex watch, and the owner’s wrist.
ENCHANTING BRACELET
Rolex watchmaking
With its soft lines and solid links in 18 ct gold, the Pearlmaster bracelet gives the watch a highly individual character and offers the wearer maximum comfort. It is equipped with a concealed Crownclasp that is both elegant and functional. The intermediate links on one version of the bracelet are in 18 ct white gold sublimely set with diamonds of the highest quality. A subtle echo of the bezel, this magnificent gem setting provides the finishing touch to an authentic and very feminine bijou of watchmaking.

THE CASE OF THE PEARLMASTER
A paragon of elegance
The incomparable beauty of the Lady-Datejust Pearlmaster is equalled by its timekeeping qualities, which are identical to those of all Oyster watches. Its case, guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet), is a paragon of robustness, proportion and elegance.
CALIBRE 2235
A superlative chronometer
The Lady-Datejust Pearlmaster is equipped with calibre 2235, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 2235 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.

Rolex's revolutionary regatta chronograph, launched in 2007, is now available for the first time in 904L steel, fitted with a Cerachrom bezel insert in blue ceramic.

READABLE AT A GLANCE
An obession with perfection
A high-performance timekeeping instrument, designed for professional skippers as well as yachting enthusiasts, the new Yacht-Master II is a pure example of Rolex expertise in terms of precision, functions and reliability.
PROGRAMMABLE COUNTDOWN AND RING COMMAND BEZEL
Unprecedented Interaction
The Yacht-Master II features an exclusive function developed by Rolex: a countdown which can be programmed from 1 to10 minutes and incorporates a mechanical memory, allowing it to be reset to the same countdown duration. Once launched, it can also be synchronized on the fly, enabling it to be adjusted to match the official regatta countdown. The countdown function responds ideally to the need for precise timing during the crucial starting sequence of a regatta. Although technically complex, it is essentially very simple to use: the countdown is programmed via the rotatable Ring Command bezel, an innovative interface between bezel and movement developed by Rolex.

THE OYSTER CASE
Symbol of waterproofness and robustness
The Oyster case is one of the foundations of the reputation for excellence of Rolex watches. Invented by Rolex in 1926, it was the world’s first waterproof case for a wristwatch thanks to its patented system of screwing down the bezel, case back and winding crown against the middle case. Like the mollusc, the Rolex Oyster is robust and clamped shut. It provides a hermetic environment that protects the high-precision Perpetual movement from water, dust, or pressure.

SOLID-LINK BRACELET
AND SAFETY CLASP
Rolex Watchmaking
The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex. This ingenious system allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance.

CALIBRE 4161
Regatta chronograph and superlative chronometer
The Yacht-Master II is equipped with calibre 4161, a self-winding mechanical regatta chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. The result of over 35,000 hours of development, the Yacht-Master II introduces a new regatta countdown with a unique, patented mechanical memory created by Rolex. A number of the 360 components in the 4161 movement are so tiny or complex that they can only be made by new, cutting-edge technology.

Rolex is honouring the art of dial making and traditional gem setting with a selection of new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date models in gold graced with diamonds, mother-of-pearl and fine coloured gemstones. The new Day-Date models have distinctive, sophisticated dials conceived and produced in-house by Rolex dial makers. All the bezels are set with baguette-cut diamonds.

ROLEX DAY-DATE "SERTIE"
Mother-of-pearl, gold and diamonds
Using exclusive techniques and a subtle juxtaposition of materials,
two new creations emphasize the natural beauty of mother-of-pearl.
The mother-of-pearl carousel dial features an openwork design hour
ring in 18 ct white gold set with 217 diamonds and delicately inlaid
with pink or white mother-of-pearl, engraved with a floral motif.

Rolex is introducing new versions of fine gemstone dials enhanced by the brilliance of diamond-set hour markers: lapis lazuli on the 18 ct white gold model, bull’s eye on the 18 ct yellow gold model and ferrite on the 18 ct Everose gold model, with diamond-set bezels.

DIAMONDS

OYSTER BRACELETS
AND CONCEALED CLASPS
Rolex watchmaking
The new Day-Date “Sertie” models are fitted with an Oyster bracelet in

The new Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II is presented in 904L steel, with a rotatable bezel featuring for the first time a two-colour ceramic Cerachrom bezel insert in blue and black representing day and night.

KEEPING PACE WITH CHANGING TIMES
An obsession with perfection
Although the GMT-Master II was designed essentially for professional use, its combination of peerless functionality and rugged good looks has attracted a wider travelling public. As well as appreciating its ability to display different time zones, these travellers admire the robustness and versatile appearance that make the GMT-Master eminently suitable for globetrotting and, indeed, for any occasion.

CERACHROM BEZEL
Exclusive two-colour
A technological and aesthetic feat, the new Cerachrom bezel insert is obtained by a unique process developed and patented by Rolex which allows this ceramic component with two distinct colours to be produced as a single piece. It echoes the traditional two-colour bezel of the original GMT-Master and GMT-Master II models.

904L STAINLESS STEEL
Rolex watchmaking
Rolex uses 904L stainless steel for its steel watch cases. 904L is mainly used in the high technology, aerospace and chemical industries, where maximum resistance to corrosion is essential. A superalloy, 904L is extremely resistant and highly polishable. It maintains its beauty even in the harshest environments. 904L steel also provides a perfect complement to the precious metals used by Rolex.

SOLID LINK BRACELET AND SAFETY CLASP
Rolex watchmaking
The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex. This ingenious system allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance.

CALIBRE 3186
A superlative chronometer
The GMT-Master II is equipped with calibre 3186, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. In addition to the conventional hour, minute and seconds hands, it features a 24-hour hand to display a second time zone. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 3186 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests.

The new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date collection in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold features luxurious colourful leather straps and matching dials.

DAY-DATE
Precious materials
A symbol of excellence and prestige, always exclusively in gold or in platinum, the Day-Date was the first chronometer wristwatch to indicate the date and the day of the week spelt out in full on the dial when it was launched in 1956. Its elegance is now expressed in a more informal manner.

PRESTIGE AND ELEGANCE
Cognac, cherry, chocolate, green and blue
The new colours of the dials and the matching straps vary
according to the gold of the watch case: green or cognac
for the 18 ct yellow gold versions; blue or cherry for 18 ct
white gold models; and chocolate, or a more classic rhodium
dial with a black strap, for cases in 18 ct Everose gold.

18 CT GOLD
Rolex watchmaking
By operating its own exclusive foundry, Rolex has the unrivalled ability to cast the highest quality 18 ct gold alloys. According to the proportion of silver, copper, platinum or palladium added, different types of 18 ct gold are obtained: yellow, pink or white. They are made with only the purest metals and meticulously inspected in an in-house laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, before the gold is formed and shaped with same painstaking attention to quality. Rolex's commitment to excellence begins at the source.

LEATHER STRAPS AND
GOLD FOLDING CLASP
An obsession with perfection
The straps of the new Day-Date combine the comfort and nobility of alligator leather with the convenience of a new 18 ct gold adjustable Crownclasp. This folding clasp is effortless to use and allows the length of the strap to be easily adapted.

MONDAY, LUNDI
Instantaneous day and date
Initially presented in 1956, the Day-Date was a world first. The first watch to indicate the day of the week spelt out in full. Worn by many world leaders, the Day-Date is available with a bespoke day display in a wide choice of languages.

CALIBRE 3155
A superlative chronometer
The Day-Date is equipped with calibre 3155, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. It features

Watches with minute repeaters have always ranked among the rarest, most precious, and most elaborate timepieces. In an extremely compact space, their intricate inner life brings together hundreds of individual parts that interact and function in harmony, or move next to each other with minimal clearances, without making contact.

Ordinarily, minute repeaters belong to the category of large wristwatches. But here, Patek Philippe made an exception because its self-winding caliber R 27 PS is one of the thinnest movements with a striking mechanism. It not only ranks among the few repeater movements that are self-winding but thanks to the off-center minirotor in 22K gold – fully recessed in the plate – its height is a scant 5.05 mm. These are ideal assets for a watch intended to elegantly grace a feminine wrist, despite the formidable horological degrees of difficulty that it incorporates.
With its charming case in warm rose-gold framed by a convex bezel, the new Ref. 7000 is a timepiece of great beauty. The manufacture's classic Officer's-style models also inspired the straight lugs with the screwed strap bars. In place of a hinged back-cover, however, it features a screwed sapphire-crystal back that reveals the marvel of sonorous time. The slide that activates the minute repeater is perfectly integrated into the left-hand case side, juxtaposed by the fluted crown at 3 o'clock that visually emphasizes the equilibrium of the case form. The cream-colored dial with the transfer-printed maker's signature and the seconds scale in antique rose is surrounded by the mirror-polished bezel. Nine applied Breguet numerals in 18K rose gold and dainty rose-gold pearls at the periphery of the dial are placed along the hour and minute circles, accenting the easily legible, open face of the watch. It sets a sublime stage for the "Poire Stuart" hour and minute hands and the slim baton-style counterbalanced seconds hand. All hands are crafted from 18K rose gold. It is easily to overlook the fact that this poised and feminine face conceals no fewer than 342 individual parts of a highly complex movement.

For every lover of complex watches, it is always a joy to observe the ballet of the filigreed parts of a striking mechanism in action. And it is not just men who are captivated by the complexities of haute horlogerie. For instance, the number of hours, quarter-hours, and minutes displayed on the dial must be continuously updated by the system of intricately shaped cams, wheels, and snails so that they are in the right positions when the slide that triggers the minute repeater is actuated. This is because the toothed segments of the hour, quarter-hour, and minute racks must move into the positions that allow them to accurately control the number of hour, quarter-hour, and minute strikes.
The rhythm of the strikes, in turn, is controlled by a small centrifugal governor, which assures that the gongs are struck in uniform succession rather than in a hurried sequence.

Apart from many tiny parts, this also calls for the utmost in precision and patience in finishing, assembling, and adjusting them. For this reason, movements with minute repeaters are crafted in separate haute horlogerie ateliers at Patek Philippe, where one master watchmaker is responsible for the assembly, adjustment, and completion of each individual watch from start to finish. This work is entrusted only to the most talented watchmakers whose assets are sharp eyes and ears, a steady hand, infinite patience, and years of experience.
Finestwatches.com, has just released a new iPhone App that displays the watches celebrities wear.
From Jennifer Aniston to Khloe Kardashian, if you want to see which watch your favorite celebrity
chooses to wear and the price of owning one of these fashion statements, now “there’s an App for that.”

Did you know that Jennifer Aniston wears a Rolex, Day-Date President? Or that Mark Wahlberg wears a Rolex, GMT-Master II?
Well now “there’s an App for that.” Finest Watches, a watch retailer and wholesaler based in Encino, California, has released
an Apple iPhone app that contains, not only a catalog of the company’s high-end watch offerings, but also celebrity
photos beneath the watches owned by the celebrities.

Arnold Schwarzenegger wearing a Audemars Piguet

"Celebrity Arnold Schwarzenegger wearing a Audemars Piguet"

While originally developed as a helpful tool when shopping for a rare timepiece, or to learn more about the world of high-end
collectible watches, the app is quickly morphing into a celebrity trend spotting tool.
Among the celebrities spotted wearing their favorite watches: Lebron James and Jay Z wearing a Royal Oak Offshore.
Brad Pitt wearing both, a Rolex Submariner and a Patek Philippe Nautilus. Ellen Degeneres, Hayden Panettiere, Sandra Bullock, Khloe Kardashian,Brad Pitt. Steven Tyler and Sean Combs all wearing a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona.
Shia Labeouf wearing a IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar. Leonardo Dicaprio wearing a Master Minute Repeater.
And these are just a few of the many celebrity photos.

"Celebrity Brad Pitt wearing a Patek Philippe"
Celebrity trends are big business and there is no question as to whether or not celebrity endorsements work.

The basic idea of an endorsement is pretty simple. People like celebrities.
If those celebrities say that they like a product, or in this case wear a particular watch, people will like that product, to.
So, what accounts for this celebrity effect? Endorsements could be a signal of quality — but the modern consumer is sophisticated.
They know money’s changing hands. At a deeper level, we seem to crave connection to the famous and the powerful.

Finestwatches.com is no stranger to dealing with celebrities, foreign dignitaries, high-profile clients or ultra expensive watches. Known as a “go to” company for high-end timepieces, one of the most expensive pieces the company has dealt with is the Patek Philippe 5002P in platinum, which market value is somewhere in the $1.6 million range.<br
Some of the other Finestwatches.com iPhone App features are:
Information and pricing on high-end watch brands
A Horology Blog covering a wide range of topics ranging from exciting innovations in watch making, to other related watch business news.

Pictures of watches with descriptions and featured display
While keeping up with celebrity trends is fun, the finestwatches.com app is designed for the watch connoisseur and collector of fine timepieces.
The app is available for free from the Apple App store and can be downloaded here.

The central elipse frames the angular part of the sky visible at lattitude 46'20''. Three separate sapphire crystal discs rotate around the dial.
The night sky of the Northern Hemisphere rotates counter-clockwise showing the passage of the sky relative to the meridian of Sirius
(the brightest star second only to our own Sun). The sidereal day of 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.09892 seconds is measured by the passage
of the fixed star Sirius (indicated on the dial via a special arrow). The waxing and waning of the moon is shown on a secondary dial, displaying
both lunation - the time between two full moons, which is on average 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.82 seconds - and the lunar day - the
time between two passages of the moon across its meridian, being 24 hours, 50 minutes and 28,328 seconds.

Celestial timepieces have been produced for some time, but none so accurate as the Patek Philippe Celestial. To create a watch that accurately
measures moon-phase and solar time, the master watchmakers at Patek Philippe used sophisticated computerization to produce the single precise
ratio out of 25 trillion ratio combinations. Just how accurate is this watch? The lunar day is accurate to 0.05 seconds per day, 18.385
seconds per year, or 30 minutes and 38.5 seconds per century. The sidereal day is accurate to 0.088 seconds per sidereal day, 32,139 seconds
er year, or 53 minutes and 33.9 seconds per century. The moon phase is accurate to 6.51 seconds per lunation. A remarkable achievement indeed!

One crown at 2 o'clock winds the watch and sets the time, the other at 4 o'clock sets the astronomical indications.

Each watch takes approximately 18 months to complete, and about 35 examples are produced annually. The 301 individual watch parts are hand finished. All steel components are bevelled and polished reducing friction at wheel contact points thereby improving precision. The automatic rotor is made in 22k gold. All Celestials bear the Geneva seal - testament to the state of the art manifested in each watch.

Philippe reference 5204 is very impressive. It's a new perpetual calendar with split-seconds chronograph for
Patek, replacing the 5004 in the lineup, and offering a number of significant improvements.

Here are the basic differences:

First, Patek has chosen to up the case size from 36.7 to an even 40 millimeters in keeping with the modern trend for larger
watches. It's a huge jump, but 40mm is still a more than reasonable size and looks very good.
Currently the 5204 is only being produced in platinum (5204p-001 being the full reference for this piece), and while
the 5004P was most often seen with Arabic numerals, the 5204P features applied gold baton markers with luminescent
fills instead. The dial itself is opalescent 18k white gold and the hands are black oxidized gold with Super Luminova inlays.
The sub registers have also been rendered a little more minimally, with the day/night and leap year indications move off the
sub-registers and into small windows.

New Dial:
Day and month windows at 12 o'clock, 30-minute chronograph register at 3'clock
(which now jumps instantaneously), leap year window between 4 and 5 o'clock, date register
and moon phase at 6'oclock, day/night window between 7 and 8 o'clock, running seconds register
at 9 o'clock, and the hours/minutes hands and two split seconds hands centered on the dial.
The 5204P has a cleaner, more pared-down look when compared to it's older sibling, and
readability is amazing for such a complicated watch.

But it's what's under the surface that really makes the difference here (and it's almost a $75,000 difference).
The 5204 is powered by a caliber CHR 29-535 PS Q movement, with a Gyromax balance beating at 28,800 bph (4Hz),
which is a substantial change from the 18,000 bph of the 5004's CHR 27-70 Q. Beyond beat rate though, the 27-70 Q
chronograph was based on Lemania's excellent movement, and then heavily modified in-house at Patek, while the 29-535
PS Q is a true built from the ground-up, highly complicated, in-house movement. It is manually wound, has a 65 hour power
reserve, can be seen through the sapphire case back (solid platinum is included as well), and is the eighth fully in-house
chronograph movement from Patek Philippe.

This in-house movement contains a number of innovations, particularly for the split seconds chronograph system. The first is
the switch from an "octopus wheel" isolator system to a new "swan-neck" isolator system for controlling the split seconds hand.
The octopus could only turn unidirectionally and required a bulkier isolator wheel spring, while the swan-neck is very thin and
can move quickly in both directions. The result is a much more reliable split system that is also more durable and easier to
The second innovation is a mechanism for reducing the offset between the two chronograph hands. Because the split seconds hand's movement is linked to the main chronograph hand's movement, there can sometimes be a slight difference between the two. Rather than cover this up with a slightly wider chronograph hand (which many do, and the 5004 did), Patek have reshaped their cam and roller system to be dead precise. The geometry is relatively complicated, but the idea straightforward - more consistently predictable contact between moving parts and you get more accurate interactions.

Description:

2012 - Heading the line-up for Baselworld 2012 is the magnificent Patek Philippe Grand Complication Split Seconds
Chronograph & Perpetual Calendar
This year, Patek Philippe brings the Ref. 5204, which combines the perpetual calendar complication with a split seconds
chronograph complication.
The Patek Philippe Ref. 5204 replaces the Patek Philippe Ref. 5004.
Both watches feature a split seconds chronograph combined with a perpetual calendar, moon phase indicator and an
A.M./P.M. indicator.
The new Ref. 5204 has a larger 40 mm case, as compared to the 36.7 millimeters of the Ref. 5004.
The new Ref. 5204 also has a redesigned dial and hands.
Here are the differences: while both watches have manually wound movements the Ref. 5204 has a brand new Caliber
CHR 29-535 PS Q movement which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hours and has a 65 hour power reserve.
The movement in the Ref. 5004 beat at a slower 18,000 vibrations per hour and had a shorter 60 hour power reserve.
In updating the size of the Ref. 5204 to keep up with the times, Patek also made good use of the additional space.
A perpetual calendar is a mechanism that automatically takes into account the varying number of days in each month as well as leap years, so that the watch displays the correct date each month without the need of adjustment
In addition to the two main complications, the split seconds chronograph and perpetual calendar, the Ref. 5204 has several other complications.
The watch displays the day and month at the 12 o'clock position.
At 3 o'clock it has the standard 30 minute chronograph counter.
At 6 o'clock, the watch displays the day of the month and the moon phase indicator
A small round aperture at between the 3 to 4 o'clock positions indicates the leap year cycle, while another small round aperture at between the 3 to 4 o'clock positions serves as a day night indicator.
Two case backs are provided with the watch.
A full platinum case back and another with a sapphire crystal glass
Patek Philippe has thought of it all, allowing the wearer to use the watch to its fullest capabilities & still having a sleek, sophisticated & rare timepiece to covet & enjoy!
Strap: alligator with square scales, hand-stitched, matte black with deployment buckle in Platinum.
